UPSC ESE/IES Nationality
To be eligible for the exam, a candidate must meet the following criteria regarding nationality:
- Citizen of India, or
- Subject of Nepal, or
- Subject of Bhutan, or
- Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of settling permanently, or
- Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of settling permanently in India.
- Candidates falling under categories (b), (c), (d), and (e) must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India. Candidates requiring a certificate of eligibility can still appear for the exam, but the offer of appointment will be given only after they receive the necessary eligibility certificate from the Government of India.

To meet the eligibility criteria for the UPSC IES (Indian Engineering Services) exam 2024, candidates must fulfill the basic educational qualification requirement. UPSC ESE/IES Medical Examinations
After successfully clearing all the rounds of the UPSC IES 2024 exam, candidates are required to undergo a medical examination, irrespective of whether they have previously undergone such an examination. The medical examination will be conducted at one of the railway hospitals under the Ministry of Railways. The Railway Medical Board will make the final decision regarding the candidate’s fitness, and this decision will be considered final.
